Monthly Book Log {November & December 2017}
I will always hold dear the memories of snuggling up with 4 year old Preschool Bookworm and reading our first Christmas novels together. We have read piles and piles of Christmas picture books, and this year we were ready for chapters. Tumtum & Nutmeg novels never disappoint, and I was so impressed by PB’s comprehension and perseverance with The Family Under the Bridge, an older book with some difficult vocabulary and a slow paced plot (I asked– probably too often– if he wanted to abandon it, and he always insisted he wanted to know what happened next!).
In the audios category, (and NOT in the Christmas category) we all adored All-of-a-Kind Family and I learned some parenting tips from Mama (she could have written the book on Love & Logic!). Published in the 80s about a family living in NYC at the turn of the 20th century– a sweet, wholesome family novel. We also were interested to learn about the family’s Jewish holiday traditions.

Classical Kids Christmas. Mama Bookworm found this one to be super interesting… my little bookworms not so much. I’ll try this again when they’re older. It includes poetry and classic carols, intertwined with facts about how Christmas has been celebrated traditionally around the world. It’s very well done and quite beautiful & rich. Just couldn’t compete with Laurie Berkner Band (which, truly, is a wonderful kids’ Christmas album) for my 2 & 4 year olds. 😉
