Monthly Book Log April 2018 {Age 5}

After typing up this post I realized all of our reads this month were either old or seemed like it! Copyrights of 1947, 1942, 1963, and the newbie with a setting from the turn of 19th century.

Books

We were proud yet sad to finish the Tales from Maple Ridge series this month. We have both really enjoyed this series. They are gentle, old fashioned stories; in addition to wholesome messages, they contain pictures on nearly every page and short chapters. Perfect early chapter read alouds! We’re hoping author Grace Gilmore will write some more! 🙂

The Big City (Tales from Maple Ridge series) by Grace Gilmore

The New Kid (Tales from Maple Ridge series) by Grace Gilmore

Begin (Growly series) by Philip Ulrich. We are just a few chapters shy of finishing Begin, book one in the Growly series. It is much longer than our usual reads at 258 pages and only a few illustrations in the entirety of the book. But, my nature adventure bookworm is loving it! More details next month.

Audiobooks

Box-Car Children: The Lake Monster. During his daily quiet time, PreK Bookworm maxed out my monthly limit of audiobook borrows through Hoopla with the Box-Car Children series. He is obsessed and easily listens to several hours per day! We listened to one together while out and about running errands. Simple introductions to the mystery genre. Two thumbs up.

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. We tried this a few years ago and it was a miss– this time, a HIT. And such a classic! I wish there was a Mrs. Piggle Wiggle I could call with parenting issues. I guess she’s like an old time Super Nanny! Ha!

Encyclopedia Brown Solves Them All My husband and I remember these from our elementary school days! PB was hooked! I think we will be listening to a lot of mysteries in the near future.
