Books that Travel Well {Seek & Find & Flaps}
Updated with more great titles, 2021! When packing for a road trip, every book has to be worth its weight! Seek & Find books and Lift-the-Flap books are great for holding attention spans and can usually serve various ages in one tidy volume! I spent some time with my library’s catalog and pulled a huge pile of contenders. In this post you’ll find our favorites that sustained interest over our latest car trip. I found them all worth bringing along in our precious cargo space!
If you’re traveling with library books and have quite a few, you could print out your checkout receipt and highlight the titles you’ve brought along, as a way of making sure they all make it home from Grandma’s 😉 Here’s my recent post of car trip tips: Road Trip With a Librarian Mom.

Where’s the Pair and The Odd One Out, and lots more by Britta Teckentrup!)
Art Up Close: From Ancient to Modern by Claire d’Harcourt
(Be aware Art Up Closes is an oversized book, 15″x11″)
Animal Camouflage Search & Find

Pirates Magnified (comes with a magnifier tucked into the cover!)
Tip: when searching your library’s catalog for these types of books, look under the subject headings rather than just doing a general search. If you find a book that is similar to what you’re looking for, you can click into its record and then usually link from that book to others with the same subject heading. For example, we love Search-and-Find Alphabet of Alphabets by Allan Sanders. The library record for that title linked me to “picture puzzles — Juvenile literature” which then led me down the rabbit hole of more options!
Search-and-find Alphabet of Alphabets
Spot the Mistake: Journeys of Discovery
Spot the Mistake: Lands of Long Ago
An Excessive Alphabet
Where’s the Penguin
See Under the Sea
Let’s Explore a Castle

Sports Zone: A Spot-It Challenge
Have You Seen My Dragon?
Have You Seen My Monster?
These books are great for those pockets of time when you may have to wait– restaurants, doctor’s appointments, waiting for sibling activities to finish. They’re also great for a tabletop easel. We have one on our kitchen table, and it is used daily as an invitation for my kids’ eyes and imaginations! You can read more about our easel-worthy favorites here.
