Books About Birds for All Ages

Spring is for the birds! We have been seeing so many nests, hearing little chirps of baby birdies, and even found a robin’s egg on our hike today. And there are so many lovely books and educational materials about birds!

*the Crinkleroot books are wonderful and all out of print. I would never recommend you spend an exorbitant amount of money on a used book, but I include this here so you can check your library and interlibrary loan services!

Novel/Family Read Aloud

we loved Cynthia Voigt’s other animal novels, Toaff’s Way and Angus & Sadie

For Grown Ups

Just For Fun

Puzzles! This is a set of 14 mini puzzles, a total of 500 pieces but each mini puzzle is color coded on the back if you’d want to sort them instead. We’ve put this, and the others in the series, together over and over!

Games

Wingspan is not technically for kids, my kids DO play (and love) this game. for a while, my 7 year old would just play with the gorgeous bird cards included in the game. He sorted them by… wait for it… wingspan 🙂

Learning Birdsong

Audubon Birds: These are so smart- cute little plush birds that sing authentic bird calls provided by the Cornell lab of Ornithology’s bird recording archives! We’ve gradually added to our collection, and these little guys have taught us to train our ears for these bird calls! There are many varieties to choose from based on what’s in your backyard or what you’d like to learn, and affordable! (Usually around $8)

Toob backyard birds. We have these on our windowsill beside our birdfeeder. Fun for the kids to try to match what they’re seeing outside to those figures.

Happy birding!
