April Bookworm Bingo: Literacy Activities {printable}
April is the perfect time to add some reading fun to your routine! The library world is bursting with inspiration: the April calendar includes National Drop Everything and Read Month, celebrated in honor of Beverly Cleary’s birthday in mid April; National Library Week; and National Poetry Month. Be sure to see if your library is holding any special events that you can participate in with your little bookworms. April also brings fresh ideas for reading topics from Earth Day, April Fool’s Day, Take Your Child to Work Day, even Tax Day! April’s Bookworm Bingo is FULL of literacy activities to celebrate them all!
I hope that this month’s Bookworm Bingo inspires you to celebrate the joy of reading! You can download a PDF of April’s Bookworm Bingo here. You’ll find a flexible springboard to encourage you to infuse literacy based activities into your month. I’ve brainstormed some fun ideas for you– you decide how to play! Consider setting a goal, celebrating your success, and most importantly bonding as you share these book related activities.
Keep Reading!
Melissa
PS. To read more about National DEAR Month, take a look at the official website. Many activities are geared toward older bookworms who would be reading Beverly Cleary’s classic mid-elementary novels. But, there are some great printables for younger bookworms too. I’m going to try their brainstorming activity “Top 10 Things I Would Drop Everything For…” with Preschool Bookworm.
PPS. Read more about how we started DEAR time with Preschool Bookworm in my post here. It’s lots of fun for little bookworms and their bookworm parents alike!
