Alphabet Books for Bigger Kids
I’ve been on the hunt for clever ABC and alphabet books that won’t bore my older kids! My 5 year old has hit that special developmental stage when letters come alive! He is segmenting words for fun because it sounds silly, rhyming words to make “jokes,” and noticing text as we are out and about. It’s so fun! To encourage his newfound interest in letters and their sounds, I’ve of course turned to books! Alphabet books!
So many ABC books are for kids much younger than my son, and being the second born he has a STRONG radar for anything remotely babyish. I’ve managed to hook him with several titles that his big brother (7yo) has enjoyed too! Many of these titles have various entry points for different levels of readers, from identifying/searching for letters (uppercase and/or lowercase) to puzzling out which pictures illustrate letter sounds.

P is for Pterodactyl *for MUCH older kiddos. This was tricky for the adults in our home to read, too 😉 but very fun!
If you’re on the hunt for an excellent reading curriculum, I can’t speak highly enough of our experience with All About Reading. My firstborn (7y) is working through Level 3 now, and the aforementioned 5 year old is starting Level 1 after enjoying the Prereading curriculum and Ziggy Games. I love how systematic it is, and I know they’re getting a balanced, multi-sensory program with no gaps! The readers (hardcover bound short story collections) are wonderful, too! Feel free to message or reach out on my Instagram or Facebook pages with any questions! (They have an amazing ONE YEAR return policy– use it and not like it, you can return it!)
